Yes, my first thought was that your disk drive is not working, usually the disk drive made the "noise", that I believe you are talking of, leave the computer at least 45 seconds to try to let it boot up without a disk.

If you get to the green desktop, but no drive icons then you'll need a new disk drive, I suspect.
