This is an RLL type mechanism. You may be able to find a replacement from a hardware liquidator such as:
42mb Seagate ST250R HDD $15
RLL 5.25 X 1.6 70MS
http://www.hitechcafe.com/eshop/product.asp?sku=ST250R+HDD&dept_id=7
For $15 plus shipping, this will be the cheapest way to get going, although you may want to buy two ;)
The controller in the Megafile is for this RLL type of drive only, and therefore it cannot be upgraded to something more current.
You could possibly gut the unit and use only the box and power supply with a more modern ACSI to SCSI controller and a SCSI hard disk, but this would be more trouble than simply purchasing an appropriate replacement enclosure.
An ICD Link 2 or Link 97 adapter will allow you to use fairly standard SCSI drives from Mac, PC, and Unix platforms.
A suitable enclosure would look like this, for example:

Then you just need a compatible drive. Make sure to look up the limitations of your particular hard disk utility (or update your HDX) and whichever controller adapter that you may get. Most STs don't seem to like anything larger than 500mb, and need drives that do not have parity checking, or can disable this option.
Good Luck!
