I doubt you will need a new disk drive.

This is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY common with 520 and 1040 STs.

You can either take of the case cover, and heat shield and press the chips in or you can do what is rumoured to be in the service manual.

The 6 inch drop:-).

I have used both, find the 6 inch drop better for STs without and internal drive

:-).


I have alot of STs that do this after pulling them out of the closet.
