OK, so I got the latest version of drivers and utilities I could find, and tried again.
No luck.
Pulled it open and un-connected the laundra-mat inside. Connected it again.
No use.
Unconnected again, and turned the connectors. And back again.
Tried a few different versions HDX, and I think it was 6.05 or something that finally started getting the HD to start formatting. But failed. Tried again. failed, but lasted longer. tried again, and it went all the way!
Failed to partition.
Re-formatted. Partitioned. rebooted....
installed driver!
rebooted
BOOTS!
Works!
Seems like there had gathered dust or corrosion on the read surface during the garage visit the unit had taken before I bought it.
Now it's alive - should be real interresting to see if it boots up today too. :>)
