Two things:
First of all, if you had to format several times before the drive would work, you may have surface errors (a lot of them) and this problem generally gets a lot worse over time. Keep your data backed up! The drive could be in the process of failing.
Megafile RLL drives can sometimes experience sticktion, where they refuse to spin up. The only solution that I ever found was to unplug the Megafile (make sure it is turned off) and give the whole case a rapid but gentle twist. Often the inertia of the platters inside the disk will allow them to come loose when you move the case in this way. Then when you plug the unit in again and turn it on it will spin up.
I ordered one of the $15 RLL drives from Hitech Cafe, and I'll post as soon as it gets here.
