Ah. Sorry. The frame buffer is the software that drives the video under linux. The XF86Config file contains the configuration information for X-windows (the GUI, or graphical user interface, under linux). XF86Config stands for X Free 86 Configuration, since Linux uses the "free" version of X-windows, and the 86 is just a hold over from the time when he free X-windows GUI was first ported to the x86 line of processors.
Well, I've been meaning to write a document of getting Linux up and running easily on an Atari.....looks like the time has come....
In the mean time if you have any questions, just ask. I should be able to answer most about installing and configuring most things under linux.
