Most applications do, most games don't. The latter usually require a system reset.
to 2.)
There's unarc and unzip utilities for the Atari ST, too, just search google or try ftp.lip6.fr/pub/atari for a basic set
of tools. They're usually not very much fun to use on a single-disk-drive system without a harddisk, but you
probably have one.
