4MB should be more than enough for a fairly useable Magic System.
I had just 4MB on the STE, and it ran like a bullet, even with all the stupid stuff I was throwing at it. After it booted up, I had less than 2MB free, but this was because my system at the time had things like NVDI as well as tons of TTF's and also Kobold, the CPX modules under COPS, and LetEmFly, BoxKite, LED Panel, and several other little toosl like that, and it showed no sign of slowing down at all!
Why your system does this, is possibly because of high colours, but as I use CrazyDots on the TT, I dont see that slowing down anything? - maybe its that you are using thing?? - Doubtfull though as its definitely the most popular for MiNT users isnt it?
Oh, one thing that may be an issue though, is that the CACHE might be disabled under Magic? - check that out - use a CPX Module, because I noticed that Magic turned off the BLITter on STE, and turned off the CACHE on the TT...Thoughts?
