Wow... a real noob...... NP my friend.
A) Atari's Dont have a BIOS. the colored Atari logo is what the 1200XL OS displays when the computer fails to boot form any device, i.e the floppy drive or a cartridge.
Kind of like when a PC fails to boot from any device and you the to "no BIOS ROM- System halted" message .
A) Atari's dont run MS-DOS, in fact dont even try to put a PC-type HD 1.2MB floppy in an atari drive thay can only use the VERY OLD SS-SS or DS-SD, or DD-DD disks, (( NOT HD..)
c) you will have to first determine if the floppy drive unit you have even works, is an 810, a 1050 or some other model? To do that you will need a source of KNOWN good working Atari-DOS disk/utilities to test it.
Please Google "Atari FAQ" that will lead you the Atari FAQ and you can get the big picture. If you give up on it, let me know, I need another 1200XL for a project.
