Additionally, the memory and OS cards were easily accessible by opening the top cover on the 800. You had to completely disassemble the 400 to do this. Also with the factory 8 or 16 k ram models you could not run DOS so most 400 owners used cassettes, as single ram card upgrades of 32k or higher (the minimum for running DOS) were not sold until much later and were rather expensive for the time. I myself have a 400 with 32k and another with 48k and a typewriter style keyboard upgrade. Actually I am not sure of the ram on the second unit but BASICs print fre(0) command shows the same amount of RAM as my 48k 800 but some upgrades were not compatible with the print fre(0) command so it may have more than 48k. Also the upgrade card says 64k/2 on it which leads me to believe it may be 64k or even 128. I hope the above info was helpful.
