Hello,
Failing being able to find someone electrically minded, you might try getting an aerosol 'air' cleaner. which may blow the dirt (if it is dirt) away from the connection. You can do this without taking the machine apart, although as a 2600 is clearly out of warranty you may want to consider a spring clean internally. Don't forget 20 year old+ plastics and electronics can be fragile.
