AFAIK ARAnyM does not require Unix compatible filesystem. It doesn't require any filesystem I think. The HostFS is based on POSIX but you can disable HostFS on platforms that don't have POSIX layer.
ARAnyM was compiled using mingw which means that it can work on windows even without unix compatibility layer. Same should be possible on Mac OS 9 if there was somebody who had Mac and was interested in getting ARAnyM running on it.
