I have a few questions about the Falcon. Could anyone please help me out here.
Ok, Its slow. I dont mean just slow, I really do mean its bloody slow as hell.
I have tried the 16mhz option, as well as the cache, and yes, I do see a bit of a speed difference, but I cant honestly say that under tests, the speed difference is next to nothing - they are both slow.
Under Magic 6, trying to move a window while also displaying the contents is worse than it is on an STE & HiRes... It takes nearly a second to update the window, and you can see it slowly draw it from the bottom up! - is it supposed to be this slow?
I keep reading about the Falcon having a Blitter, and I know that they do not, why the hell Atari left that out, I dont know?
I have been putting the Falcon head to head against both my TTs ( One is bog-standard, the other is a bit nippy ) and the Falcon gets stuffed in every way.
For example, the TT without NVDI and with the cache OFF, and the Falcon with NVDI 5 and cache on is still way less than half the speed of the TT.
This makes me assume that there is a problem with my Falcon?
NVDI on the TT increases the graphics speed by 5 times on some features, and up to 20 times with others!, and yet it does next to nothign on the Falcon. I might as well just use GDOS instead for all its worth!

Right, another thing, which isnt really important, but I read in a copy of ST Format some time ago about all these silly resolutions that the Falcon does, but I cant seem to get at any of them? - No, dont get me wrong, I can do a few more than the TT does, I get access to 320/640 by 240/480 in 2,4,16, 256 & TC as well as the compatible ST Modes, but where the hell are the others I read about?
Hmmm... Something tells me that what I read was wrong then!?
Dont get me wrong, I really dont care as I am now going to be using an eclipe & ATI Rage, but its the principle of the thing that is getting to me.
( end of rant )
I am about to also buy an Afterburner 040 and this should also cure the speed problems too, but what really gets me, is that the TT is older than the Falcon by some time, and yet Atari still went and dropped the speed by such a massive figure! - surely this was one of the most supid things atari ever did?
