My 1040 STE refuses to read from disk at bootup.
The drive starts as it should when power is turned on, and initializes ok.
Then it stops, normally for a couple of sconds. Then it should start reading,
but it doesn't. The drive's LED stays on but nothing more happens... :(

I have tried swapping diskdrives with a 1040 STFM, and the STE's drive IS ok
and same thing happens with the STFM's drive in the STE. What is this?
(yes the disks are ok. Works fine in the STFM, tried with both drives)

My guess is that the FDC (WD1772 02-02) is faulty, any other ideas?
