Fellow Atari Lovers! --- Help!!
My name is Steve and I believe it or not,
I recently acquired a BRAND NEW Falcon.
(new computer old stock) from a music store
in Florida.
My problem is, that on CERTAIN days, it does not want to boot. Then it simply WILL boot without problems later that same day or mabye the next day?!?!?!?!
Either way, its a pain for me. I am an A+ cert PC tech, but the STs tech is new to me and this is just too damn confusing.
I have never seen anything like this on a PC. PCs are either well or dead!!
This model was a 4M one without a HDD, so I ordered the internal mounting kit from Best Electronics and installed a new 2GB hard drive and a properly rated MC68882 math co processor. I then installed HD Driver 8.1 and the version of Mint and GDOS from the original disks in the box.
Whenever it machine "feels" like not starting, all I get is a black screen, no drive activity nothing. If it was a bad chip on the motherboard, why would the machine start and work PERFECTLY, half of the time. It's not the power supply, I am getting the correct voltage on every single power lead.
Could it be the CMOS,,,AH-HUM, NVRAM battery? After all, had been sitting in storage unused from the day it was built in 92 until now.
If it is the battery, I am not sure if I am
willing to deal with having the battery replaced (it appears to be a surface mounted Dallas) I have enough projects to do with my 8-bits and STEs.
If so, would one of you like to buy it? I can use the money to finish 3 or 4 of my other projects.
Any help appreciated thank you in advance.
Steve
