A few months ago I bought a STacy from some d00d. Said he never used it, had no adaptor, didn't know if it worked. I decided I'd buy it and try to nurse back to health.
I found a PSU option which was very cheep! This STacy says, above the DC adaptor input, that it needs 18v. I poked about online, did some research: turns out that the adaptor which these really shipped with was like 16.5v at 2A, or so. Whatever the specs were, I scoured ebay and found a brick supply with the exact same ratings, for an old Zenith laptop! Even the barrel connector fits! And I bought it for like $2 instead of a lot more.
Now that I can start the STacy, I see that it is broken! (I am not really surprised). It sounds good: drives start, LED goes on, the screen lights up nice and bright. The problem is that the screen is a mass of digital garbage! Lots of bizarre signals which indicate to me that the unit is a bit off. I have no real Atari monitor to test it with... perhaps I will build an adaptor.
So I know that this STacy needs a bit of work to even hopefully get running. I'm guessing it's a version 1, with a Meg of RAM- I will certainly need to address this if I succeed! Anyway, experienced as I am in computer repair, this thing is a real pain to open up. When I have more room I am going to try to carefully pry this open to attempt repair.
Meanwhile, any chance that somebody can point me towards schematics for the STacy? I have no money left, as my work has gone, so I can't buy a service manual or such. I have seen schematics for every other Atari ST/ TT online, except this one! If there are some I could refer to I'd be grateful, as I think I will need them very soon.
Thanks much!
