Greetings people,
Have recently acquired an Mega ST 4, and as i don't know Atari ST computers, i was thinking in learn something about them with this machine.
But the thing is that it doesn't works.
As i'm a hardware kind of guy, i looked inside the machine, and i noticed some differences in comparisson to some pictures i found in the Web.
I expected to find inside, a Blitter chip, and a 6 chip TOS set.
But inside my Mega there's no Blitter chip, and there are only 2 TOS chips.
I've been told that some Megas have been shipped without the Blitter chip (seems that was the case of the UK machines), and that some have a 2 chip TOS set.
Is that True ?
My TOS chips are 629 and 630, and a good fellow at Best Electronics told me that they are the 1.2 TOS.
So, what i want to know, is if this TOS chips are a true 2 chip set, or if some chips have been removed. Would my machine works with these 2 chips only ?
And as the bottom case label has been removed, i can't tell if this is the UK os US model, and i haven't a clue if this machine was originally shipped without the Blitter chip, or if this was removed too, with the TOS.
Anyway, seems that it's possible to run a Blitter enabled machine without the Blitter chip, making some hardware mods, to disable the chip.
Do someone knows where i should look, to see if this machine is Blitter enabled ?
I have been an Amiga user for long years, and never thought that the Atari machines was bad. And now that i could afford one of them, i really would like to play around. So please help me to revive this beast.
