Ok, time to get some real responces now.
I look at the the state of the Atari scene every day, and thebiggest single thing that must be my biggest headache, is seeing how crap things are, and how much better they could be.
I know we all have at least one thing that we want, but dont have.
What is mine?
Well, I will tell you.
The O/S.
Lets be honest here, but Atari Software is pathetically slow, and most of the time its down to the O/S and its routines...
We need more speed, so perhaps its about time the O/S went through a major overhaul?
Ok, looks at the facts here, Magic is the fastest, by quite a way, but just look how slow it is compared to when you add your usual extras.
How about re-writing Magic, and including NVDI into the routines? - bang, we have a very fast O/S that is at least double the speed of normal.
Then there is Disk Accessing... Its shit, and thats being nice to it. What about adding the Koboldroutines to speed up the disk accessing? - ok, what about actually getting hold of some kind of SMARTDRIVE as the PC has had for so long, and using that too?
These are just graphics and disk, I am sure that if the whole O/S ( BIOS/XBIOS/GEM etc ) was totally re-written in optimised machine code, even the humble ST would be somethign of a monster performer, so what do you think?
Am I right, or am I right?
Maybe then MiNT would finally become at least useable, even on a slower machine
