I record using CAF and a FAD-8. Awhile back I bought a second Falcon from my old job(they were gonna throw it away) which came with an FDI. I used to use this FDI with a DAT machine, but now I just use the FAD-8 and a CD rewritable. I've been recording midi stuff to a stereo track in CAF, then doing internal mixdowns of all tracks to the HD. OK, now the question!
I've thought it would be nice to be able to record everything (midi and audio) to an external device, and have been considering looking for a dat for that purpose. However recent price drops in CD recorders have made me think that they might be a better solution. Some CD recorders have S/PDIF, and I wondered if there is any use for the FDI with one of these CD recorders? It has been suggested that the AD converters of most DATs are better than sound pool's stuff, but I don't think that is true with the line audio stuff (FAD-8.) Any opinions?
Thanks!
Wayne
