Alright, I know this sounds stupid, but hear me out. My family got into a "business" where we go to yard sales and purchase what is thought of as "junk". We watch eBay and know what things are currently not junk. We then buy the thought-to-be junk and re-sell it in eBay for profit. My mother has made some good money while I have just started this.
Last Saturday we were at a yard sale when we saw an Atari. I said to my mother "hey it's an atari, wanna buy it? hahaha" I wasn't serious because we never purchase such things. Well, she slowly made her way to the system and found 6 controllers, the power pack, the tv connection, and about 20 games, all of which have the manuals. Well, I've heard stories of Atari's from my parents and have researched it on eBay before. She asked me "you think this is a good buy?" Well, it was all for $30, and I told her that if it worked, since it had the manuals, she could probably make $50 at least. Well we bought the system (it does work) and I was hocked immediately. We decided to keep the system.
Well, I realized that on the same day, I saw two other Atari systems at other yard sales, and numerous games. Now here comes my question..
The system's I saw were probably not working, but I don't know what would be wrong with them. I would like to what ususally goes wrong with an atari? (you could say I'm asking what it's flaw's are) Is it at all possible to repair these by myself or learn to do so? Basically it boils down to, "Can I learn how to repair Atari's for resale purposes?"
Now I know, "O boy, here's some kid who thinks he can do something he knows nothing about and thinks he's going to make a ton of money by doing so." I don't expect to make a lot of money, I would like to be able to do so and make some pocket change in doing so (plus be able to repair ours if it ever goes south).
As for no knowledge, I admit I don't know much about Atari's, but if the problem is usually a loose wire or something, and people think they're broken and get rid of them, all I'd need to do is put the wire back and sell it as working.
Thanks for the help in advance, and please no "go get a job" posts, that's not what I'm going for.
