If someone helps me out with this i'll try to return the favor by releasing a new little demo or game for the st. (it would be nice to code something else besides softsynth for a change)
What signal in the falcon allows the SDMA to synchronize itself with the SSI output of the DSP when the SDMA is set to record in 4 track mode (8 mono tracks)?
How come the SDMA sometimes doesn't syncronize correctly with the SSI? For example: channel 1 of the SSI shows up as channel 3 of SDMA (all other channels positions would be "rotated" accordingly i.e. sdma 4=ssi 2, sdma 1=ssi 3, sdma 2=ssi 4).
Is there a way to ensure that the SDMA will be in sync with the SSI output? It seems there is no bit in the hardware of the falcon that can be checked for this. In the DSP there is a frame-sync bit. But this bit doesn't show up in the falcons 030 memory map. I could wait to get a "sync" message on the host port of the 030, at which time I would start the SDMA but why must things be SO complicated!
Now I realize there are only a handfull of people doing DSP code anymore on the atari but SOMEONE must have encountered this problem before.
thanks for reading,
-jason
