Well there is a lot of work to do to keep TOS alive. It must be reprogrammed completely that far sources are not available. There is no guarantee, that there will always be a MC68000 compatible CPU for new computers.
With sources in C we can port TOS/GEM easily to any platform we want, for example a PowerPC like the new AmigaONE or any other hardware.
Unfortunately the sources of TOS are the secret private property of Digital Research.
