I wanted to program Atari stuff... but unfortunately I'm limited to Pascal, as Assembler and other languages are like Chinese to me.
I think the first step is to get willing people (like me) a buttkick to start programming. Atari Users with good programming skills could hold courses ect.
I'd spend alot of time with it.. if I had any C/Assembler knowledge. The Atari community could use this.
The aim should be towards the newer Hades and Milan computers (and accelerated Falcons and TT's), and I'd like to see GL accelerated games for them. Older 3d accelerators such as Voodoo1 and 2 are incredibly cheap now. While they won't be as good looking as the PC market's Geforce 1-infinity, the old V1/v2 boards would boost the gaming to a new level on Atari. Take Diablo2 for example. It's not a 3d shooting game, but it takes advantage of the lighting in GL.
We don't need 1Ghz machines just to play games.. but we shouldn't limit ourselves to the past, when the future is knocking at your door with a cheap price tag on it.
The Hades and Milan (and other projects) are a step in the right direction. But if you want new users to the Atari world... you should consider that they probably won't want to "optimize" the computer to do this, and then reboot and optimize to do another thing. While some of you consider optimizing a pleasure, for the new user it can be troublesome.
Umm.. I lost myself somewhere in those lines.. anyway.. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
