I'm looking into buying a used Falcon030, but I don't have a great deal to spend.. (~$400CDN, quite possibly a little more...) What sort of system should I be able to get for that amount? (If you're not already aware of the low value of the Canadian dollar <g>, check out http://www.xe.net/ucc/ to convert that figure to your local currency.)
I figure I get more Falcon-per-dollar if I supply my own multisync S/VGA monitor--all I need is a system with an RGB->VGA adapter, correct? I'm sure there's a hitch somewhere. I've seen separate RGB and VGA versions of Falcon software. This suggests to me that the RGB->VGA adapter might not be a total solution... can anyone offer some advice?
I know the Falcon was designed to accept 2 1/2" HDs, but I've heard a lot of people saying that you can cram 3 1/2" HDs in there. :)
Also, do those 2 1/2" IDE drives use a different sort of cable?
I've dabbled with Linux and managed to get a few apps/simple IP router going.. am I ready for MiNT or should I stick to MagiC?
Can power users still live in 4MB of RAM? :) I'm guessing no...
The SCSI port on the back: is that DB-25 or fast/wide SCSI-2-style?
It looks like Ethernet for the Falcon is not an option... I've heard of Riebl, Lance and PAM (VME) Ethernet interfaces but I've had a hell of a time finding any details of any kind about these cards. Can someone fill me in? ($$$, where to buy, glitches, etc.)
Lastly, who's got a good Falcon system for $400? <grin>
Thanks!
