Greetings all!
A few years back, I was frequenting the Usenet group for Atari 8-bits, talking about the web browser I had (at the time) started to develop for the 8-bit machine. Then, I dropped from the entire scene due to several family-related issues which I don't need to go into here.
However, I have recently been regathering my notes for the project and also managed to get my trusty 800XL up and running, obtained the hardware I'll need, and decided that it would be far better to approach the project slowly, with not even a "finish" date to offer, so as not to get anyone's hopes up. And I've since discovered that the idea has been implemented by others anyway-- although I'm certain that my concept would work better... ;-)
Putting all that aside, I've also found that there really isn't a satisfactory site dealing with the 8-bit series exclusively that reaches out to not only those familiar with the Atari computers, but to novices as well-- and that's when I decided that I should do what I can to personally avail myself of the internet and launch a site that would serve that cause. Widening out the original goal will hopefully serve the needs that I don't see as being met currently.
The Atari Phoenix Project will include a newsletter, a website, a message board, and an E-Zine similar to the no-longer-published ANTIC, Analog, and Compute! magazines. A wide range of topics will be covered, written by a former (and current) Atarian-- but will be exclusively for the Atari 8-bit line of computers, and the peripherals thereof.
I'm sure that this has been done by others before me, and that there are sites I may not be aware of that are also trying to fill this particular niche. But based on what I've been able to find thus far, many such sites have either been abandoned, or have not been pushed forward.
This may actually evolve into a pet project rather than what I'm hoping it will become-- which will be fine with me. But I wanted to take a few moments to let everyone else know about it...
You can sign up for the newsletter by sending an email to morloc@morloc.com and use "The Atari Phoenix Project newsletter" as the subject line.
You can visit the under-development site here:

You'll find a link to the message board at the website, but it's just been opened, so don't expect to find any messages quite yet. Still, I'd love to see what degree of support will be out there, so you can drop me a line any time. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
