I have been trying out WinUAE for one month now. And I`m amazed with the fact that all the games I liked on the ST are better on the Amiga.....
I have two PCs running next to eachother one running Pacifist/Winston the other WinUAE. Looking closely at the games the Amiga vesions often have more colors, far better scrolling (where the ST version sometimes has flip-screen...), more and better sounds.
But most importantly it has at least 3 times as much games available for it compared with the ST. Some of these games that aren`t available for the ST really rock and make good use of the Amiga`s capabilities. Maybe the authors didn`t use it to the full with other games so it could be easily ported to the ST.
I always thought the gap between the two systems wasn`t that big. Commodore should have done a much better marketing compaign.
If only Atari could have bought this gem when it had the change.....
The only objective reasons I can think of to emulate a ST instead of an Amiga is if you have a slow machine (sub 200mhz pentium) and some games that still don`t work right with WinUAE. The emulation is slower because of the complex nature of of these systems (multiple dedicated processors).
Question: Why weren`t all professional ST/Falcon applications ported to this system? I can`t think of one reason why the Amiga would be less capable running them as STs, Falcons, etc. Maybe it`s the TOS??? But I heard AmigaOS is pretty good as well and can do some truly amazing this modern PCs still can`t accomplish.
I hope I don`t get flamed by bringing up this subject.... :)
