I've recently left the Atari platform (not by choice - my 1040STe died...) and I've switched to a PC running the BeOS (http://free.be.com/) since it was dubbed "The Media OS" for the same reasons why I preferred running MIDI apps on the STe - stability, ease of use, and rock solid MIDI timing.
I certainly miss running Edit Track as there isn't anything similar developed for BeOS yet (although there are some unique MIDI apps in public beta), but I recently ran across Steem Engine for Windows and it worked really well, even considering i used a really old 540Mb hard drive just to have Win 98 on to run it (my PC was BeOS only until last month.)
Why not an emulator for BeOS? All of us loyal Atari users could use our Atari apps via an emulator that allows us to retain the advantages of the Atari on a platform with all the advantages a modern operating system (ie NOT Windows or MacOS) gives?
I definitely see the benefits of having an emulator on a solid platform like BeOS. I'd like to find those who would agree to help bring an emulator to BeOS, either by writing a new one or porting an existing one (ourselves or encouraging developers to port). If you're interested, please email me (see address above.)
Thanx for your time,
Mitch
