Many thanks. If I'm reading you correctly, you are suggesting that the normal boot sector on the drive has become damaged and therefore it may be possible that I could use something like DiamondEdge or HDDriver to set a new boot sector before I can use the AHDI boot install program? (The strange thing is is that if I use AHDI to set partition or zero partition then it comes up with the drive as physical unit 3 and C and then enables me to change settings. It just won't let me then install the bootup routine, or recognise it with install devices. I did notice that it came up with several bad sectors during the format.).
Can anyone talk me though this process (ie using DE or HDD) to re-initialise, or can anyone recommend a hardrive replacement model that my Mega STE can recognise without any serious fiddling?
