Does your printer have DIP switches? I have a Canon BJ10e inkjet printer that I used to use with my STe and I had to change the DIP switch settings to ESPON 800FX settings (or something like that - 9 years ago so the memory is vague!). Then when I used the printer with my STe I had to change the setting back to IBM settings.

If you have a manual it might help you with this.
