Is it possible that the HD has some corrupted partition data, could be that it is trying to setup a harddrive with the letter A maybe.
This is just a guess, not sure if it could really do that.
If so you may be able to..... Hold on, if you remove the floppy then you will not be able to load software to re-partition it. You can not attach a external floopy.
You could try booting without the hard disk attached, then once booted, plug it back in. The HD utils should be able to find it.
Do not try this unless someone can confirm this is okay to do. SCSI is okay about it but not sure about IDE!
