Expensive is relative, really. There is practically nothing else that will do the same job. That sort of specialist stuff is never cheap for any platform, same for 19" rack case upgrades (for example), if you ever consider one of those. SoundPool's hardware is very well made and worth it for the person with a real need for professional quality equipment.
