Cant say how far the Flcon can go with HD Size, but I guess its going to be somewhere along the same lines as a PC is.
Perhaps the 2 or 8GB Max maybe?
Might be interesting to find out actually, but I honestly recon its more likely to be the 2GB!
I say this because the TOS FileSystem, is based on the DOS one, which is FAT16, and isnt the TOS FileSystem actually FAT12????
Cant remember right now to be honest, its nearly 3am anyway.
Right, As for Magic & Jinnee, well you will be very impressed I can safely say that!
Magic is pretty much a turbo boost for your Atari, and coupled with Jinnee, and its a pretty fantastic setup. Jinnee has all the great extras that you wished were on any other previous desktop you may hve tried, plus some more, plus some silly ( but handy extras too ).
One of the really usefull things that I have found, is that if you are copying, moving, or deleting folders and they have files that are protected, etc, it tells you so, and does the job if you say yes... Very handy especially when in previous desktops, you had to go into each file attrib and set it all the time.
You can setup different colours for different filetypes... PRGs in RED, MidiFiles in Blue, and so on!
You are not limited to Icons on the desktop either, you can use multiple sized icons, or text only, or icons without text etc, which helps the visuals.
Another handy thing, is that if you have multiple programs for certain filetypes, you get the option of which program to launch! - for example:-
LZH Files.
You can have it launch either LZHSHELL or LHArc
Or even MIDI Files get chucked at a player, or Archived up!
There is the ability to even create your own script which can then let you do pretty much anything, but the Scriper program ( GEMScript ) is not actually supplied unfortunately.
Seriously, there is tons of stuff that it can do as standard, and there is NOTHING that comes even close to its power.
MultiTOS
Well, MultiTOS is basically a re-work of the standard GEM Desktop thats built-in.
Its very slow, but lets you load of many programs at once into your system.
Its quite good, but seriously, its the first real Multitasking OS on the Atari, and things have come a hell of a long way since then.
You are better off trying out MiNT ( www.freemint.de I think? ) as its far faster, and far better all round, or better still, stick to Magic, its even faster still.
I dont want to argue with anyone about whether Magic or MiNT is the fastest.
