IDE data width is 16-bit, pins 3-18 inclusive. Not sure about CAF, I don't use it, but there must be a desk accessory that can do what you want (there was such a solution for the STE/TT but limited to 8-bit resolution samples). Cubase is not compatible with MagiC for fundamental reasons like memory leakage.
