Speaking from the perspective of Atari reseller and as one that develops both Web and non-web based systems in the corporate environment with the NT platform. The fact that TOS computers are baselined for a 4Mb 8MHz STFM, ie. the code is highly optimised, but not necessary featureless, where as the windows platform is currently baselined on something in the vicinity of a 400MHz, where developers do not give application efficiency a second thought ( I work with heaps of people like that!). Consequently a machine like my 256Mb MCS 60MHz Hades 060 seems incredibily fast in general use and in MPEG and another highly processor intensive activities is isn't any slouch either. My operating system comes on a pair of floppy disks, wheres the Windows OS takes literally dozens.
There is an exceptional document processor for the Atari/TOS range of computers, called Papyrus 8, which is being launch within the next two weeks. It is available in both German and English and is incredibly compact and fast, making Microsoft's bloatware feel as unusable as it looks.
Look at http:/www.rom-logicware.com/
There is a considerably more powerful range of applications for the TOS computers now than there ever was in the past and in most instances it is easier to use too!
Check out http://www.centek.fr for the dual processor 68060 Phenix machine with multiple digital signal processor options. It is likely to be the power computing choice for TOS users in near future. It sure sounds exciting!
Cheers,
Anthony

Thanx for your responses...Still have a couple of questions though.. Firstly, I've been to the Gemulator site, but read that it needs a Gemulator card ?? What is one of these? I am assuming at the moment that it is a card with all the TOS ROM's on it. If this is the case, then are the chips replaceable as new TOS ROMs become availabe? Secondly, where would I get such a card ??! I know the Atari isn't exactly mainstream, so it may be difficult from where I stand. If i were to get a Gemulator card, would it be worth it ? I did love my old Atari, but what i used it for was manily games, and the Gemulator would run games waayyyyy to fast! Finally (I know I'm rambling now :-) are there any decent Word Processing, DTP, Graphics, and 3D applications for the Atari ?? When I left the scene, WP and DTP programs were damned easy to use, and similarly for graphics applications (although suffering from simplicity and not many colours). 3D was unheard of at the time. I'm used to high-performan....
