The Eclipse/RageII is not something that can be compatible or not (they have next to nothing in common with the ordinary Atari graphics hardware). fVDI and its RageII driver are, however, but it's been a long time since I heard of any serious VDI level incompatibility.
In any case, the development is still going on (most recently, a couple of minutes ago ;-), so reported bugs are still investigated and fixed (if possible).

How so?

What are you using then?
I can only remember a couple of programs that failed completely, and then because they assumed things regarding the screen layout that they had no reason to. Most other problems I've heard about have been quite minor, and shouldn't affect most software.
It may be worth noting that ARAnyM also uses fVDI (unless you want to be limited to slow emulation of the ordinary Falcon screen modes) and just about any problem that affects fVDI/RageII will affect fVDI/ARAnyM as well (the reverse is not quite true, since the ARAnyM driver is still not 100% finished).
This should make for significantly more general interest in finding and fixing bugs.
> If you still want to get one ATI Rage II 2D/3D is the card you are looking for. I would be very surprised if you can get any other card to work.
There are currently two variants of RageII cards that works. I could likely make other variants using similar chips work too (at least if I had direct access (the main problem is the clock and memory setup)), but the current software will not even attempt to do anything if it does not recognize the PCI card's device and vendor IDs.
(Note that I do not earn any money from Eclipse sales (nor have I ever, unless you count receiving a free prototype Eclipse/RageII several years ago), so I have no such motives for recommending it. I do use one myself, though, whenever my Falcon is turned on.)
