Well, an emulated Atari *cannot* fight against a real Atari and *viceversa*. Why? Because they both have their pros and cons. For example, For gaming, MIDI and demos, notthing can beat a real ST! The feel of having it connected to a TV and use that one-button joystick is just amazing :)
In the other hand, emulated Ataris can be very good on many ocassions. For example, I don't have a Falcon (and I see very hard the possibility of buying one), so, what are my chances of using Falcon software? Well, a Falcon emulator!!! (hey Aranym, wake up please).
So, as I said, both are good on many areas and both are bad on many others.

PS: btw, currently I don't have a single Atari emulator. With my ST I can do whatever I want without the need of emulating it on my Mac.
