1) Speed
NO! - Not actually true unless you have the Latest PC. Yes, most PCs will beat an ST for speed, from 486 an up, but for TT Speed and up, you need a hell of a lot faster than Darek makes out, and a clone, no emulation can come close, so its a bit of a duff point
2) Larger Hard Disks
Balls, I have a 4.3GB Drive ( among others ) and I use that quite happily, its far too big to be of any real use on the atari anyway, so again, its a soft answer
3) Better/Larger Monitors
Bollocks! - Again, better than the ST yes, but not better than ANY other atari or clone, as they can all use the same SVGA screen.
Bigger resolutions? - again, a pile of crap, I currently use 800x600 but I can happily go to 1200x1024 if I wanted to, and this is not an atari limit, but my own, I have read about resolutions that are far bigger than that, but why the hell does nybody need such modes unles they are designing with CAD or something?
What the hell do you use to get such resolutions? - I habve GEMulator, and the larger screens are useless on my system.
BTW, they are stuck at 16 colours too, so again...
4) More printer selections
No, a printer is a printer, all you need is the right driver, and ok, I can accept this to a point, but I have NEVER failed to get even the most stupid printer to work on my system, admittedly, I have not had to do it all that much.
5) Better graphics (Magic).
WHAT? - are we back on the grpahics again?
Prove it? - yes, an ST is too crude, but not a newer system, please for gods sake, look at the facts
6) Access to CD's, DVD's etc.
Now we are getting stupid arent we?
Are you trying to tell me that an Atari cannot use a CDROM or DVD? - I have 2 CDROMS on each of my Ataris, and the Milan has a DVD, so.... NEXT!
7) Access to USB devices such as gamepads
Yes, ok, thats one for you... But wait..What is that I hear? USB for ataris coming up? how about the fact that I have a USB Port on my milan connected to a PCI slot.
8) Selectable OS/CPU configurations
Selectable CPU - yes!
Selectable OS - NO!
On taking the advise from ChrisCrosskey, I found that I could happily have Multiple SCSI HardDisks, setup as ID0, and as long as no power was applied to them, they would work happily, so, as I have my TT right now, and have done for some time, I use a rotary switch to select which HD I boot off, and I get a choice of TOS, MiNT, Geneva, Magic, Apple Mac, or Debian Linux
9) More easily upgraded
Ok, thats one thing I will agree 100%
10) No extra space for hardware needed.
I will agree with older systems, but these days, its not applicable
I can see that EMU is ok to a point, but lets be honest with things here... As things stand, all an emulator can do, is give you an ST. Yes, it will give you a fast ST, and it will have better graphics, but at the end of the day, its still only an ST.
I wanted this port to bring out such issues as wondering if an EMUlator can do waht a Falcon can do, ( NOPE! ) or if an enulator can do what a clone can do ( DREAM ON! )
At the end of the day, all that I have seen, is Emulation can give you a good ST, but nothign else!
