another irq-free solution might be patching the bus/address-err. routines in order to catch accesses to a pseudo busy reg. ($ffff8a3c.w)
which would be processed appropiately in such cases.
the other registers could be remapped using the pmmu. i guess that's about what you suggested but i don't see why that would cost much cpu time - actually it wouldn't cost any extra time as long as the emulated blitter remained idle.
