Hi,

On the falcon/st keyboard connector, 7pin (well 9pin on falcon but nothing uses last two) carries the signals you need. One has disk activity, and you can use the 5v supply for the power on LED. You need series resistor, erm about 270ohm should be fine.
I think the disk activity pin goes to 5v when active, 0v otherwise.

Pinout is in Chips'n'Chips, or schematics etc. Or, work backward from the old Falcon keyboard, you should easily see the tracks leading to both LEDS with the resistors in place.
