Really, You don't need to replace the FDC in order to upgrade to a 1.44MB drive... ;) Just replace the FDC's 8MHZ clock with 16MHZ...
These are both 1.44MB drives. I did the upgrades many years ago, using some drives I took from some old wintel's, at the city dump... ;) They have both worked fine ever since, until now...
What happened, was that I just turned the STE off, and next time I turned it on, it all of a sudden wouldn't read any disk...
I have now tried both drives AND both FDC chips in both computers, in both 720 & 1.44 modes, and every combination works fine on the STFM, but nothing works on the STE. (not even the original drive...):
I just wondered if someone has expered something like this before? It is not a 'standard' fault, I've never heared of this before anyway. Maybe it's time to just throw the old bugger away?? Something tells me that further troubleshooting could be a loong and painful story...
(I just recalled: I found these ATARIs at the dump too!!!:)
