It is very fast and good so if you want to add ide harddrive to your xl/xe then goto http://home.wanadoo.nl/mr.atari/ You might be interested in connecting your atari xl/xe to your pc then using the pc as a big storage device and disk drive goto http://www.atarimax.com/ The APE cable is sooooo good you will never use your 1050 disk drive again as you download all atari xl/xe games+utils then using the ape software on the pc you boot the atari xl/xe and the games load from your pc into the xe/xl very fast better than any 1050 and no need for those hard to get 5 14" disks :) Check the two sites out there very good :) Paul.
