Diamond Edge should be able to do that even if the bootsector is messed up, but I'm not 100% sure tho. If it won't, then you can always do a complete sector-copy with DADE, but I reckon that would take a veeery long time...
BUT, you don't HAVE to back it all up, just to have a look at the drives surface with DADE! At startup, it acts like a diskmonitor, not changeing anything, just reading. It lets you jump from cluster to cluster as will, and it also looks up subdirectorys, if you tell it to do so. When you have found something you'd like to save, go right ahead. Most handy is to have a RAMdisk ready, to save the files on. Note, as long as you only READ from the disk, DADE does NOT change anything at all. I'd say it's 100% safe.
