This whole issue of Piracy I think is a bit of a soft point nowadays...
Given the fact that while its very illegal for you to give a copy to people, do you know what the makers of that software can do to you?
...
Well, I will tell you!
Bugger all!
I will give you a great example, because over the last few months, I have been openly boasting to microsoft that I have an illegal copy of Windows 95 on one of my systems, and I need help ( blah blah )... Now, while they will not offer me any help ( Oh, I am surprised ... NOT! ) and they keep on telling me to remove it because I am breaking the law etc, they cannot and will not actually do anything to stop me.
This is because the software is no longer supported, and they have to prove in court, that my one copy of Win95 has cost them $X ammount of cash... Of course they cannot.
This does not apply to 98SE or ME even though they are no longer supported, and you will NEVER get support on ANY 9x Kernel OS from MS, they do still sell, so...
Now, if MS cannot do anything, ask yourself... What can any AtariSoftware company do?
Now, I am not one for promoting piracy, but there comes a time when you have to cross the line... If I cost any Shareware programmer any money then sure, this is not on, and we need them still and I will happily support them in any way I can, but when a software company no longer supports its own software... then the line must as far as I care, be crossed!
There is also the issues of other companies selling some software, and if that software is still selling, then piracy should not happen, but the days its no longer available.... Ask me and a copy will be on its way no questions!
This is the only way I can see that the Atari will ever survive...
Well, that and the stupid cost of hardware.
/End of Rant/
