> I have been trying to get my ATI Card to play nicely since September mate. I have given up for a while ( AGAIN )
I'm sorry to hear you've been having more trouble. :-(
Our recent email communication had me hoping I might be able to figure out what the problem was. The part about the mouse cursor always being moveable was very interesting.

With the PCI BIOS still detecting the card properly? If so, that sounds like some kind of problem with the ATI card itself.
(Could possibly also be some kind of bad connection causing the setup to go wrong, but that should have been detected by the 'scratch register tests'.)

There's absolutely no point in trying different versions of those files. I can't recall there ever being a new version that introduced a problem that wasn't there before.
(And a few times there have been changes made that make new files completely incompatible with old ones. Regrettably, the software has not checked any version numbers to detect such cases, but that is intended to go into the next release.)
Simply use the latest versions.
If those don't work, something is very likely wrong with your setup (hardware-wise, or there is some kind of software compatibility issue). After all, the same files work for everyone else (assuming people who have trouble get in touch with me, which of course is not guaranteed), and the hardware is supposed to be the same...

Configuration variations are almost completely a software compatibility and performance issue. The standard desktop should appear with just about anything in there.

I obviously can't say anything about fVDI files located elsewhere, but what I have on my Web site is generally what I use myself.
There should never be a reason to fetch fVDI files from anywhere else. I was not even aware that there where any available for download elsewhere (That's not a terribly good idea, but with fVDI being GPLed there's of course nothing I can do about it.).
