 Subject: RE: TOS internals?

No.

TOS->GEM is in parts comparable with DOS->Windows

TOS consists of BIOS, XBIOS and GEMDOS

GEM out of VDI and AES

But although VDI is responsible for graphic output, it can't be simply compared with GDI.

VDI stands for Virtual Device Manager, and is also responsible for device management.

One subsystem is named GDOS, which was designed to handle different video devices and printer. It came belated, so many programs controlled the printer directly.

Another subsystem is called LineA functions, extremly fast and primitive drawing functions, upon which the more sophisticated VDI functions are build.

No TOS program with graphic could run without using VDI functions.
