i wasn't referring to rasters or palette changes. i was referring to writing your own routines similar to linea/vdi.
aes/vdi are good solutions if you want to make something work on a wide variety of tos-machines. on a humble st however (or even a falcon) it's popular to write your own routines for pixeloperations. the reason is speed. custom made routs are much faster.
