Hi Mike,
Since MagiC version 6, the Winframes (the way the windows and gadgets looks) can be easily modified to take on a completely different form. In theory, MagiC 6 can look like Windows98 to AmigaOS or even some made up cartoony environment. Since this is fairly recent, only a few additional Winframes have been made. You can see snaps of them on my webpage under the THEMES section. I have been told by many that work is underway on completely dramatic and more interesting modifications.
Also as already stated, Atari has a number of "replacement" desktop shells which also help change the way everything looks. New versions of THING and all versions of jinnee allow you to place window background images, for example... There are many changes one can make dependent on which desktop they choose. All offer their benifets and pitfalls, but it provides us Atari users one great thing: a choice. We use whatever suits us best.
Are there any Desktop shells for Windows, Mac, Or AMiga? For Mac they are extremely rare, windows im not sure about (?) and for Amiga?
