My Personal opinion is that STinG is your best option. This is a STiK compatible TCP/IP stack with VERY FLEXIBLE expansion possibilities, including LAN and masquarading (several Atari's through one modem) possibilities. The most important thing is that it is easy to install and VERY stable. A new release with improved documentation will be appearing quite soon too, so look forward to that.

STinG is FREEWARE and undergoing continual development. More clients exist for it than for any other TOS TCP/IP stack, although I-Connect and Draconis can now use many STinG clients through the I-Fusion stack "emulator".

Get it from:

http://www.ettnet.se/~dlanor/

Download the latest Olivier Booklage CAB.OVL for STinG/STiK/MinT-Net/Draconis/I-Connect from:

http://obooklage.free.fr/sti_cli.htm

Download the latest Dan Ackerman CAB.OVL from:

http://www.netset.com/~baldrick/ovl.html

I-Connect and Draconis are other stacks, both being commercial. Draconis has its own browser called Light of Adamas, which will include Javascript support, something CAB still doesn't have. The last release of Light of Adamas seemed fast and flexible, but the interface/look & feel is very dated, hopefully that will be improved in the next release.

Info on I-Connect:

http://www.camelot.de/~zulu/frame.html

Info on Draconis:

http://www.draconis-pro.de/

This are your immediate options. STinG is the most inexpensive and arguably the most flexible.

MiNT-Net is another options, but being based on Unix BSD sockets is not for the faint hearted to install.

CAB 2.7/2.8 is the current version of CAB, BUT has no Javascript, crashes all to often and has not received a MAJOR update for a LONG time, 2.8 introduces PNG graphic support, but this is nothing to write home about.

For an excellent e-mail (STiK/STinG/MiNT-Net/Draconis/I-Connect) and FTP client (STiK/STinG/MinT-Net) for your Atari at Atack's page:

http://www.pwp.cz/atack/

You must download both the Amail application and the ASOCK.OVL for the TCP/IP stack you choose to use.

Have fun!

Anthony

I have been asked what is the best software to use to get a ST connected on the internet. Last time I connected using my ST (a few years ago) I used CAB and STiK (?) or NOS.

Are these still available ?
What would you recommend now ?
Where can I get the software from ?

thanks

Andy
