3dfx yes, they have, and they are freely available still.
As for the 2D being better, I wont argue, but in my experience its not the case, although to be fair, I have not owned a newer Voodoo ( V3 3500 is the best one I have )
Matrox are ones for good 2D.. Again, matrox have good support for other O/Ses and again, its back to the "Will they help out for Atari" question, and we know what the answer to that will be...
The Banshee is a great 3dfx card.. Sort of a Voodoo 2 with 2D in it really!
Its every bit as quick as a Voodoo 3, if not its close! ( although the last PCs I tried these on were K6's )
I would have thought that a Voodoo 3 would have been a more suitable choice though. They are far easier to get hold of than a banshee
