yup, that's true...it's called "lan port" there and the standard is called RS422 or something, if i remember correctly.
to what i've heard/read it should be pin-compatible to this apple talk port, at least.
you could try setting up a connection using a STiK/STING-like TCP/IP stack on the atari side (using SLIP or PPP).
